The Transportation of Lambs to Slaughterhouses – An investigation by Animal Equality

· 3 minutes · Vimeo

These images captured by Animal Equality investigators in Italy, show the agonizing journey of lambs during the Easter holiday as they are transported to slaughter.

Every year, more than 400,000 lambs are transported from Eastern Europe and Spain to Italy in overcrowded, filthy conditions, with no access to food or water. For nearly 30 hours, this is their reality, and the reality for millions of animals on live transports around the world every day.

During the Eastern holiday more than 400,000 Lambs
are transported from Eastern Europe and Spain
to Italy for Slaughter.
Animal equality investigators have taken
to the field to support Italy's Ministry of Health in its
control activities of these Eastern lamb transports.
So day and night we scour the roads near the
border of Northern Italy to inspect the trucks transporting animals
from other countries.
The first truck we stop has over 500 Lambs
on board bleeding desperately calling for
their mothers.
They are so young that they seem to be on weaned the Thirsty
pops lick the walls of the truck and suck on our fingers desperate
for contact. We are reporting this struck to
the police.
The police arrived with an expert veterinarian to inspect the
situation of the animals.
On board the Lambs are unable to drink from the watering
systems as it is designed for pigs. It is
also leaking.
There is so little space that they can't even remain upright.
They have been traveling like this across countries
and it is impossible to know as they are not recording the
temperature inside a second truck appears
and we decide to intercept it this time it belongs
to one of the largest live animal transport companies in Hungary.
They boast of having the highest standards in
Europe.
When the authorities arrive they find nearly 600 Lambs
crammed together with no dividers protecting the young hornless Lambs
from the horned adult Lambs.
This is illegal. It's this type of long and
crowded Journeys the adults often injure the
small Lambs. They have barely any space between them
or between their heads and the ceiling.
Both trucks are fine for multiple violations the first
truck with 3,140 the second
with even less 2,790.
Finds a loner not enough to prevent this cruelty in the
end the animals forced to suffer for hours
or even days pay the highest price.
The transport of live animals across long distances
is one of the Meade Industries cruelest practices
many die before arriving at
their destination The Slaughterhouse.
In the United States more than 50 million
sheep and Lambs are transported every year by truck the
USDA allows sheep to be between 28 and
up to 36 hours in these trucks.
Our efforts to protect these animals will not stop until the
transport of live animals is just a memory.
Support our work to end this cruelty and keep
this suffering off your plate.
