It is not common to witness the exact instances of animal abuse caused by the unjustified discrimination termed speciesism and to document it on camera. This documentation is important as it reveals animal abuse to the world. On 24th November 2011, a video clip from ‘Live Leaks’ appeared on YouTube. This video reveals a band of US soldiers dragging a sheep into a crowded room and baying with apparent delight as one of the soldiers brutally smashes the animal’s head in with a metal baseball bat. As the cruel event plays on, the soldiers cheer until the dead body of the animal is dragged out of the view of the camera.

This brutal incident took place on 6th November and as an indispensable part of the holy festival of ‘Eid’. The Live Leaks website described the barbaric slaughter: “To represent a sacrifice made by Abraham of a ram when the angels told him that he had fulfilled the dream ordering him to sacrifice his young son, at which he laid down the knife and sacrificed the animal instead…” Animal activists have started a petition and requested President Barack Obama to fully investigate the killing and bring the perpetrators to justice. They have further initiated a protest on the social networking giant Facebook and requested the users to decry this heinous act by the so-called brave soldiers.
