Portland: Ban foie gras!

Portland, Oregon is known for its progressive policies, but sadly still allows the sale of products from force-fed birds. We’re changing that by gathering local support and lobbying legislators to endorse a foie gras ban and end this form of animal abuse.

Update – The proposed ban on foie gras in Portland, Oregon did not pass city council. While the ordinance received strong public support, industry opposition ultimately blocked the measure. Although this specific vote did not pass, the evidence of animal suffering remains unchanged.

If you contacted Portland city council, signed a petition, or spoke out for animals, your advocacy matters. Campaigns like this build the legal and public foundation required to win nationwide protections for ducks and geese.

Animal Equality remains committed to transparency, evidence-based advocacy, and long-term impact for animals.

The fight to ban foie gras continues

City-by-city, lasting change requires coordinated action across the United States to make foie gras production and sale impossible to ignore.

You can still take meaningful action right now.

By taking action today, you help:

  • Hold the foie gras industry accountable for documented abuse
  • Build the public pressure needed for lasting legal change
  • Support legislation that protects animals at scale

Make a change at your next meal

Foie gras relies on force-feeding ducks and geese until their livers become severely diseased. While we continue fighting to end this cruelty through legislation, you can take immediate action.

Choosing plant-based meals reduces demand for products rooted in animal suffering—and shows decision-makers that the public is ready for change.
