Finn’s Story

for a long time a story has been passed
on in my family from generation to
generation it speaks about the fresh
green of a meadow the bright blue of a
sky and the warming orange of the Sun
but I have never seen any of
it this is my earliest memory shortly
after hatching I was transported with
almost a quarter of a million other
chicks to a poultry
farm in these windowless sheds the light
of the neon sun was flickering
constantly we were eating industrial
feed because we were supposed to gain as
much weight as possible in a short
period of time so as the days passed by
we had less space to move
around hour by hour it became more
difficult to breathe because the air
became heavy with the smell of our own
waist some of us weren't even able to
walk or breathe properly because we were
quickly gaining a massive amount of
weight many of us didn't survive the
first
days but on the 13th day day my
pre-written journey took a surprising
Twist by then my weak legs could not
bear the heavy weight of my body anymore
I hurt my left leg and I wasn't able to
get up by
myself now I was one of those unable to
escape when the big boot came for the
injured to take us with
him I was beaten with a shovel before
they threw me inside a garbage container
so here I am now for the last 12 hours
it is cold and although I'm surrounded
by dead cheeks I am still fighting to
survive as if I knew that someone would
find me and someone has found
me a hand is gently taking me out of the
container I feel its warm touch and I
can drink as much water as I want
although the pain of my broken limbs is
unbearable I'm still trying to inagine
how it could be living on the outside
having all these space around me being
able to move and see the sky but I can
already imagine this is something I will
never

Finn's life was filled with pain and
suffering animal equalities
