Brazil is burning, and the leading cause
is animal agriculture.
Over 80% of the deforestation
happening in the country
is caused by factory farming.
And this is having a devastating effect
not only in the environment,
but also on the animals that are raised
and killed for their meat.
Fires are raging through Brazil, fires
that have been purposely and illegally lit
to clear land, for farming cows for
their flesh, as well as for growing soy.
The majority of which is used as feed
for other farmed animals
all over the world.
Animal Equality has documented
the fires and interviewed
those who are on the front lines
trying to put an end to them.
We have filmed how the Cerrado and
the Pantanal regions are being deforestated
because of the increase
of soy and beef production.
Over 6.8 billion
land animals are slaughtered in Brazil
for human consumption every year.
And that number is rising every week.
The lack of oversight in the meat industry
means that currently
there are no regulations to ensure
that even minimum standards of animal
welfare are being met.
On top of this, millions of animals
are killed in the country's
illegal slaughterhouses, where they suffer
excruciating deaths, in some cases,
without prior stunning.
This animal abuse, which is undeniably
linked to the environmental destruction
and the climate crisis,
must end as a matter of urgency.
We are demanding
that the Brazilian government
hold those responsible
for these crimes accountable
and urging policymakers around the globe
to take action to stop funding
intensive animal agriculture practices.
We need everyone to join our call.
Please sign our petition today.
The more of us who stand up and speak up
for animals, the
stronger we are. Thank you.
