Inside the UK’s Chicken Farms | Undercover Investigation

· 4 minutes · Youtube

Animal Equality has exposed devastating animal suffering on four chicken farms linked to major supermarket brand, Tesco. We reveal how hundreds of birds are dying or being killed by workers every day. The farms, based in Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire, are all operated by Moy Park – one of the UK’s biggest chicken producers and a supplier to Tesco. Find out more: https://bit.ly/343yWIN

animal equality filmed inside four
british chicken farms owned by moy park
one of the uk's largest chicken
producers
muay park supplies many major retailers
including tesco
all four of the farms we visited were
found to be independently audited by
integra food secure
a service provider contracted by tesco
at the time of filming
what we found will open your eyes to the
harsh reality
of the chicken industry birds in too
much pain to walk or even stand up
chicks deem too weak or too small to be
profitable
killed at just a few days old
wheelbarrows full to the brim of dead
chicks
on its website tesco boasts that animal
welfare is important
so how can it be that the chickens in
tesco's supply chains suffer
so extremely a farm manager explained
processed in the fight because it's not
big enough
it's just rejected then i've just spent
a pound feeding it
mr tesco will say why i won 100
in 2019 tesco reported group profits
exceeding a staggering 2 billion pounds
and over recent months tesco reported a
steep rise in sales
with online purchases up by 48 and a
half percent
in the first quarter of 2020. the major
food retailer is forecasted to see
pre-tax profits
of 1.85 billion pounds nearly 300
million pounds more
compared to the last year's tax year so
how exactly do they make their money
to answer that question we need to start
at the beginning
delivered in towering crates tiny chicks
arrive onto each farm
trapped and afraid they chirp loudly the
noise is deafening
little care is shown to these gentle
animals without the comfort of their
mothers
the babies heartbreakingly follow
farmworkers as though they are
a parent who will protect them as the
days pass by
the chicks grow in size chickens have
been selectively bred to become enormous
over a short period of time this gives
supermarkets like tesco
more meat to stock on their shelves and
more profit for their shareholders
the rapid and unnatural growth causes
the birds to develop serious heart
lung and leg problems some buckle under
the weight
others are too exhausted to go on these
farms are operated by
moy park which is responsible for
raising and slaughtering
hundreds of millions of chickens in the
uk every single year
when moypa considers a chicken too small
or frail to sell to retailers like tesco
they are killed on one day over 500 died
in a single shed
[Music]
alarmingly many chickens appear to
remain conscious
after their necks are broken

tesco this abysmal treatment of animals
is unacceptable
