An undercover exposé of Iron Maiden Farms in Owensboro, Kentucky revealed that sows confined in cramped cages known as gestation crates were fed intestines from ground up piglets who had recently succumbed to a highly contagious diarrheal disease.

My last investigation was at a SA farm
in Kentucky called Iron
Maiden. Quite a name as it's related to
a medieval torture device.
Kind of ironic being that these animals
live in torture throughout their

lives. In all the investigations I've
done, seeing pigs confined to gestation
crates never ceases to horrify
me. My time in these places is
temporary, though. I can't imagine what
it's like for the animals that live
there 24/7.
Confined to a space about the size of
their bodies, they live in their own
filth. Many go
insane. Hearing them cry for help will
always haunt

me. The rate of injury with this form of
confinement is high. At this plant, I
saw a number of massive uterine
prolapses. Inactivity causes many to go
lame. This plant's remedy was to hobble
the pigs by tying their back legs

together. Countless s were living with a
virus that the workers called Elchurro,
which essentially gives them epidemic
diarrhea. You can see evidence of this
with numerous wet spots in the aisles.

In 2 days time, I saw a total of 980
piglets who died due to the
virus. Workers then remove their
intestines to be blended into a sort of
smoothie. This mixture is routinely fed
back to the mothers, often causing them
to be infected with this virus. This
practice is also illegal in the state of
Kentucky. It's beyond disturbing seeing
piles of dead piglets being prepared for
this
process. It seems obvious that confining
pigs in such an environment that causes
open sores, extreme stress, and filthy
living conditions would only encourage
the spread of disease. More than 60
major food companies, including Burger
King and Safeway, have mandated that
their pork providers eliminate this
cruel confinement. Nine states have
banned gestation crates. Help us
continue our fight to eliminate this
practice once and for all.
