Today marks a significant milestone – it's been 12 years since Animal Equality in India was founded. Throughout this incredible journey, our mission has remained unwavering: to create a world where all animals are respected and protected.
From putting an end to foie gras imports to standing up against mass slaughter at the Gadhimai Festival, Amruta Ubale and her incredible team have consistently driven change worldwide.

hi my name is am obal and I'm the senior
director of public affairs at animal
equality in India I started working in
the field of animal rights in 2007 I
remember it being very challenging then
not that it is easy now but between then
and now the incredible achievements
animal equality has obtained has helped
us put the voice of helpless and
defenseless animals in front of the
courts in in front of the government and
in front of food companies and compel
them to take
action I had the honor to meet Sharon
Jose and javar in 2010 and I remember we
had detailed discussions about the need
to start animal equality in India soon
in 2011 we started the India chapter of
animal equality our first campaign was
to ban bull performances and it turned
out to be our very first Victory the
Supreme Court not not only banned bull
performances but made five freedoms
mandatory and also recognized the
sentience of animals soon after the
first campaign I saw gruesome images of
ducks at fagra farms in Spain and France
our investigation also revealed that one
of the Distributors was importing fagra
from these Farms into India I showed
these gruesome images to the Indian
government and managed to convince them
to ban import of vagra in India this
made India the first country to ban
import of vagra in 2017 my team and I
began work to stop animal sacrifice at
the gimi festival which is touted as the
world's largest animal sacrifice
hundreds of thousands of buffalos goats
and birds are slaughtered in the name of
goddess gimi most of the visitors to
this Festival come from the neighboring
states of India and often carry animals
with them thanks to our political
lobbying work there was a ban issued on
the transport of animals across the
India Nepal border and thanks to this
order the large number of animal
sacrific at this Festival reduced by
70% ever since animal equality was
founded I've never stopped being proud
of this incredible
organization I know together we can make
a real difference for the least
protected and the most defenseless
animals
