Animal Equality investigators have infiltrated dozens of bullfights in Spain, documenting the cruelty and suffering animals are submitted to.
Every year in Spain over 16,000 celebrations with animal abuse take place. Animal Equality has documented events such as the cruel becerradas and novilladas, revealing unseen images of violence and brutality.

For several years, Animal Equality activists have travelled through Spanish regions, to investigate what really happens in these bullfighting events to shed light upon these cruel practices which kill thousands of animals each year.
Animals are beaten, stoned, kicked and chased by vehicles until collapsing exhausted whilst small calves, less than two years old, suffer an agonizing and painful death. These are just some of the findings revealed during the investigation which uncover the enormous suffering that bullfights force upon animals.

abuse is the main focus despite them
being rejected by the majority of people
these festivities continue being
celebrated every year as they are
legally permitted and even subsidized
with public funds animals are injured
tortured beaten and suffer all kinds of
abuse they are the protagonists and the
victims of these cruel
celebrations the mistreatment towards
these animals would be completely
illegal if they were dogs or
cats in fact the Spanish animal
protection laws include an exception for
bull fighting meaning that they are able
to continue mistreating and killing
animals in these
events this is why animal equality
investig ators have infiltrated these
popular celebrations for several years
obtaining neverbe seen images that
expose the cruelty and brutality of
these
events bull running is one of the most
common and popular festivities in
Spanish towns and cities it consists of
enclosing a group of bulls within an
urban fenced area in which dozens of
Runners lead the animals to the bull
ring where they will be killed the
intense fear and stress these animals
endure causes them to try and Escape
desperately from the crowds it is very
common that while they attempt to escape
the Bulls Sprain and Fracture their legs
or slip and fall to the ground injuring
themselves
severely without receiving any care or
treatment they finally end up in the
bull ring where they will suffer a
painful
death these type of events are also
common in the countryside side where
animals are chased across Open Fields by
hundreds of people in cars four-wheel
drives and tractors in these festivals
Bulls suffer enormous stress due to the
persecution and Desperation of seeking a
way out leading them to collapse from
exhaustion sometimes they even try to
hide among the trees but they are stoned
until they finally stand up when the
animals fall to the ground from
exhaustion they are killed with a shot
to the
head but the brutality of these events
doesn't end here this morning in sidon
guadara a small group of
anti-bullfighting activists displayed a
banner calling for an end to all bull
fighting celebration this protest caused
an uproar and several activists were
attacked by residents of the
village violence is so internalized and
normalized in these celebrations to the
point that the participants have no
problem in attacking the animals as well
as those defending
them something that has surprised our
investigators is the common presence of
children throughout these celebrations
where they are exposed to all this
violence putting at risk their own
lives one of the most famous events
known for its extreme cruelty and
International rejection is the Toro de
laa in toras where hundreds of horseback

I was with a camera which was wrapped in
a T-shirt and I was surrounded by a
crowd that had been stabbing the bull
for over 15 minutes while he was already
dying on the ground I will never forget
when a person climbed onto the animal
and started cheering there was a group
of participants who began to claim the
title saying that they had won while
another group was disputing this by
indicating that it was them who were the
winners they began to fight among
themselves to see who had won fighting
violently with each other
while this took place I looked at the
animal who was still in agony as they
continued fighting about who had won the
tournament I will never forget this and
I think that this is what represents the
violence and pointlessness of this
tradition the Toro de laa has become a
symbol of battle against animal abuse in
Spain and every year more and more
people demonstrate to put an end to
it
animal equality investigators have also
documented another type of bullfighting
event which takes place throughout Spain
nadas it consists in killing young Bulls
which are not even 3 years of age in
this type of event the bull fighters are
apprentices which means that the death
of these animals is even slower and more
painful due to the continuous mistakes
of the bull
fighters
the same applies to the badas where
inexperienced matadors try to kill young
carves and animals that don't reach the
age of two defenseless animals thrown in
front of a crowd where they suffer all
types of
abuse as seen in these images a sword is
repeatedly stabbed into the animal
producing immense suffering and Agony
while still fully
conscious custom or tradition cannot
justify the suffering and cruelty caused
to
animals it is time to move towards a
society where animal abuse does not take
