Investigation: Pigs eaten alive on farms supplying major brands
Animal Equality’s recent investigation exposes the cruelty within pig farms, challenging those who ignore the suffering behind meat.
In August 2024, Animal Equality uncovered abuse at two pig farms in Aragon, Spain. Investigators documented cannibalism, wounded animals left to suffer, and decomposing bodies among the living.
Evidence of overcrowded conditions and untreated injuries demonstrates severe neglect due to poor management and a lack of basic care. In response, Animal Equality is pursuing legal action against these farms.

This is a reality
no one is supposed to see.
In August 2024,
Animal Equality
investigated two pig farms
in Aragon, Spain.
This investigation
exposes cruelty within
pig farms
linked to major companies.
The findings raise serious
concerns about the extent
of animal cruelty being caused
and its global impact.
What you are witnessing
is the reality
for millions of animals.
In the common areas
dead bodies are left to rot.
Their decomposing carcasses
lie beside
sick and injured pigs.
Without veterinary care,
their wounds worsen,
left untreated and ignored
as they suffer
in silence.
These conditions stand
in stark contrast to Spain's
animal welfare laws.
Much like regulations meant
to protect farmed animals
in the US,
the lack of sanitation
and medical care creates
serious health risks, allowing
disease to spread, endangering
both animals and people.
What our team uncovered
appears to violate Spain's
animal protection laws.
If confirmed,
this evidence
could be classified
as animal cruelty
under Spain's penal code.
Animal Equality has
filed a complaint and demands
the immediate shutdown
of these farms,
where pigs are forced to drink
dirty water,
stand on poison-covered floors
and risk disease from rats.
The question remains will
Spanish authorities
take action to stop this?
Spain slaughters around
53 million pigs each year,
making it the European Union's
top pork producer
and the third
largest worldwide.
As industrial farms expand,
growing by over 42%, more pigs
endure extreme confinement
with little oversight.
With fewer inspections
suffering goes unseen.
Animal welfare certifications
promised better treatment,
but investigations like these
reveal a different reality.
Even on certified farms,
pigs endure open
wounds, filthy conditions
and a lack of clean water.
These labels create
the illusion of humane care,
while cruelty runs
rampant in these facilities.
This is a global crisis
harming animals, public health
and the environment.
Animal Equality
is urging Spanish authorities
to take responsibility.
But real change starts
with you.
Together,
we can expose the truth
and fight for a future
free from this cruelty.
