Animal Equality closes 33 dog meat vendors and a dog slaughterhouse

thanks to the cooperation between animal
equality and the guangzu volunteer
Center we have achieved what some deemed
impossible shutting down one slaughter
house and 33 shops selling cats and dogs
in

China here there are not many
organizations that care for dogs and
cats and those which do receive a lot of
pressure and take a great risk
so after people saw the pictures of the
slaughter houses and started
understanding our message they started
to support the work we do helping
animals in society the fact that we
continue to pressure these markets makes
their illegal practices more difficult
to
[Music]
pursue this research has been made
possible with the help of the Chinese
activists who using their knowledge of
the area and the language have been
crucial in gaining access to places
which otherwise would have been very
difficult to film in
[Music]
we have succeeded in closing 33 shops
selling cats and dogs as well as an
underground dog slaughter house thanks
to the combination of three factors
firstly our research has yielded some
very powerful
footage secondly the international
campaign that we conducted resulted in
impressive media coverage with more than
50 million people viewing these images
in addition about 300,000 people have
already signed a petition through our
website asking the Chinese government to
act to save these animals thirdly local
activists using our images have
approached the authorities and with the
support of the international pressure
have managed to convince them to take
action and close these businesses

considering the number of shops closed
and the number of animals that were sold
there on a daily basis more than 1 and a
half million dogs and cats each year no
longer suffer from this cruel
trade we will continue running the risk
of protecting animals always working in
a safe and professional Way by working
with organizations such as animal
equality and the police the end of the
dog meat trade in China will come
soon the impact and repercussion of this
campaign goes to show how by working
together each doing our part we can
achieve tangible victories and make a
real difference for these animals we
believe that this is a significant step
towards ending the trade of dogs and
cats in China
