Animal protectors protest foie gras at Crystal Palace Stadium
Animal Equality in the UK continues the fight to ban foie gras imports and products made by force-feeding.
Before the 2024 elections, Labour MP Steve Reed promised to ban foie gras imports. But months later, as a Government Minister, he has yet to take action. Worse still, the Government is considering a trade deal with Europe that could ease imports instead.
In response, Animal Equality met with Reed’s constituents to hear their thoughts and joined a powerful demonstration at Crystal Palace Soccer Stadium, a team he proudly supports. ⚽
Using a soccer ball covered in fake blood–the size of a diseased bird liver–advocates called on him to “give foie gras the red card” and “kick cruelty out of the UK.”

Government Minister Steve Reed
promised that when he came into power,
he would ban the importation of
foie gras made by force feeding.
Labour will ban the import of foie gras.
But despite this, he has been
completely silent over recent months,
and now the government is not even
willing to comment on the matter.
So Animal Equality and our
army of activists are here
talking to his constituents today.
Your Labour MP has done nothing.
He has let you down on your promises.
Enough is enough. Red card for Steven Reed.
Steve Reed don’t delay,
give foie gras the red card today.
He promised to ban it before he got elected.
He said no comment.
So what do you think about that?
I think that he's lying then.
Nobody should have voted for him then.
And animals are something that, you
know, they can't speak for themselves,
you know.
So, for people to force-feed them
and then to, to get whatever they
want to get from them is awful.
It’s bad.
What do you think of it?
It's not it's not good, is it?
We're going to write to Steve Reed. Yeah.
So foie gras is made by
force-feeding of ducks and geese.
So the animal cruelty, I’m not supportive of that.
As a human, it's not a nice thing to do
to force any animal to feed.
I don't like that force-feeding.
I want things to be free and enjoying their lives.
I don’t like force-feeding.
Why do you force them?
It's not good.
It’s so sad, you know.
What would you want Steve to do about it?
To keep his word
and do what he says he was going to do.
When people promised you all
these things to get their vote,
once they get the vote, they're
supposed to, you know, do what they say.
Simple as that.
He made an electoral promise, and
we expect it to be followed through.
We know that the people across the UK
will not allow for him
to betray the people and betray the animals.
Steve, do what you're supposed to do.
And what you promised. That's it.
