Transcript (English — en)

My name is Sharon Núñez, and I am the
founder and president of Animal Equality,
which is an international global
organization. But most importantly,
I am an activist - an animal rights activist. Everything else doesn't matter. If I had
to clean toilets for animals, I would do
it, like most of you here, I'm sure.
We are taught covertly - I had to learn that word - that humans aren't animals.
It is also covertly again, taught that animals are not people. That they are not persons.
The packaged, clean chicken at the store ignores the fact that it was a baby that was slaughtered for someone's consumption.
The innocent eggs on our plate, that they were laid by hens in cages that are generally so small that they can't spread their wings.
And now we know - science tells us - I read this last week - that hens actually blush when they're excited.
Can you imagine the complexity of these animals that they blush when they're excited, like we do?
The carton of milk in the supermarket
silences the screaming and
crying of a mother who has just
been separated from her baby.
Animals are not only like us; animals
are us, and we are them. They feel,
they experience pain, happiness, grief, sadness - all of the color of those wonderful emotions that make us unique.
If you'll have me - their soul is what matters, regardless of their species,
their ability to be in the world.
I know that this movie will take us a
step closer to a world where all animals
are respected and protected. With that,
thank you for bearing with me. I want
to introduce you to a brilliant
director and personal friend,
Mark Devries, to watch "Humans and Other Animals."
Thank you very, very much.
