this is Lea Lea is ahem
from one of the several egg farms animal
equality documented in 2019
- once again expose the cruel practices
adopted in the process of egg reduction
in India it is a standard practice to
confine four to eight hens in a cage so
small that they can barely move these
overcrowded cages are usually stacked
one on top of another causing urine and
faces to fall onto birth in lower cages
many birds are also missing their
feathers and had operations and
irritations on their skin probably due
to the high concentration of ammonia
from their litter the litter is
collected in huge piles underneath the
stacked cages and has disposed of only
once every few weeks
this lack of timely disposal can lead to
diseases and mortality among the birds
after exposing the cruel and illegal
practices in egg farms in 2017 animal
equality presented the finding of its
investigation to the government along
with a list of recommendations to reduce
the suffering of hens some of these
recommendations are included in low
Commission's proposed rules for the
welfare of hens but some recommendations
like banning cages are still in
discussion
much of the animal agriculture business
in India follows the factory farm model
about 80% of eggs are produced in such
factory farms that use cages factory
farming is not just cruel to animals but
also devastating to the environment
