my name is taya and i'm a veterinarian
working for animal welfare foundation
from germany which has a sister
organization based in switzerland called
kirshud bunde zurich
we are amongst others also specialized
in the animal welfare
of animals during transport
right now we are in italy where at least
twice a year we control and observe the
long distance transport of unwind lamps
besides the controls on the road
transport of animals we also work on the
transport of animals on the sea
basically we are observing the animal
transport on the road by inspecting
the most common routes on which animals
are transported this means in practice
that we are waiting on the freeways or
on the other roads for the animal
transports to pass
then we are
then we are checking them if
there are any violations present during
the transport and calling the competent
authorities in order to have an official
controls of the
animals on the track an animal
is showing very clearly if she or he has
thirst or hunger for example especially
with very young animals so unwind
animals which do not have the
possibility to eat or drink on the board
of the truck simply because the trucks
the road transport vehicles
are not equipped with adequate watering
and feeding system we often see animals
that exhibit
so-called animal based indicators as a
tongue rolling
as very loud vocalization
and cycling on each other all these
indicators are a clear sign that animals
are undergoing prolonged hunger very
young animals like unwind lamps are
separated for from their mothers at a
very young age when they are still on
the milk diet and the separation is the
one provoking them the first
step of stress then they are regrouped
in the groups with other unwind
lamps which they do not know of and this
is also the provoking the stress
loaded on the vehicles on the transport
vehicles
and
drove them on the road and when the
vehicle is driving on the road there is
a lot of voice from outside there is a
lot of um
of moving of the truck and all these
factors like shaking of the truck
uh being in the group of the animals
they never known
being separated from the mothers not be
able to eat or drink for very long time
on the vehicle all this is provoking to
the animals a lot a lot of stress in
addition
usually they don't have even in enough
space so so they are very crowded in the
small confined
confined environment
many times they don't have even enough
roof above their heads to stand in a
natural position this means if an animal
cannot stand it means it cannot move
so now we are talking about animals
being separated from the mother being
regrouped in the grooves of animals they
never know of so they are scared then
being put on the moving
shaking vehicle with all the sounds
coming from outside
being hungry
not being able to move and all these as
you can picture it it's
a lot of stress for shuttle young
animals and also for the old ones
and the picture of all this is the long
distance animal transplant that is why
it's very very very important
that at least the tran the transport of
very young unwind animals is shortened
as much as possible
