Animal Equality investigation inside a deer slaughterhouse
For the first time, Animal Equality has captured footage from inside a deer slaughterhouse in Spain. Wild deer, taken from a protected nature reserve outside Madrid, were loaded onto trucks and sent there to be killed. The footage reveals failed stunning, deer still conscious and trying to flee, and deer hung alive. We filed a complaint. Authorities confirmed the violations and opened an investigation.

For the first time,
Animal Equality is releasing footage from inside
a deer slaughterhouse.
Wild animals that have never been confined.
They have never been handled by humans.
Now they are a part of the same system
as millions of pigs, cows and sheep.
More than 200 deer were captured
from a protected natural area in Spain.
Their antlers were cut off.
Then they were sent to the slaughterhouse.
Before the slaughter began.
Five animals had already died.
What happened next is illegal.
The deer entered the kill stall in groups,
watching those in front of them being killed.
Slaughterhouse workers failed
to kill the deer instantly,
leaving many to die slowly.
Several were still alive when the hatch opened.
They tried to escape.
Severely injured.
Others were hung upside down while still moving.
This is a sign that the animal is still conscious.
This is prohibited by European law.
This cruel system exists for deer,
for pigs, for chickens, for fish.
