Also in Spartanburg, an animal rights group held protests against Denny's at the
company's headquarters there downtown.
Animal Equality called on Denny's to end the practice of using gestation
crates in their food supply chain.
The controversial crates are used to hold pregnant animals and are often small,
allowing little to no movement. The group claims Denny's is not keeping their
promise to eliminate the use of the cages.
This is really our last try to get Denny's to
respond to what thousands of people are asking them.
That is to take animal protection seriously and
eliminate gestation crates for mother pigs.
Now, we did reach out to Denny's about the protests.
They referred us to their website, where they have plant-based meal options and
discuss their animal welfare policy and sustainable products.
They say they work with suppliers, scientists, and experts to maintain a high
standard of ethically sourced food products.
