Our McDonald’s campaign is making a difference
Sadly, chickens raised and killed for McDonald’s menu items suffer tremendously. These smart and social animals are bred to grow so unnaturally big their legs can’t support their weight. Their lives are just as bad, if not worse—crammed into dark sheds and trapped in filth, unable to engage in most natural behaviors. These conditions are unacceptable.
For too long, McDonald’s has valued profits over basic animal protections. Rather than commit to meaningful animal welfare standards, as over 90 of its competitors have, McDonald’s continues to drag its feet. It’s time for them to change.
Since the launch date, we have joined in protests and demonstrations across the country. Our message urging McDonald’s to eliminate the cruel farming practices has reached over 200 million people thanks to the campaign’s media coverage. For example, our work has led us to Orlando to protest McDonald’s Worldwide Convention, as well as to Chicago to protest McDonald’s new restaurants and its Shareholder meeting.
At the protests, we showcased iAnimal, our pioneering virtual reality experience, to give viewers a glimpse inside gruesome factory farms like those that raise chickens for McDonald’s.
We commissioned aerial and mobile billboards around the events, as well as printed posters that depicted the miserable lives of chickens. At a McDonald’s restaurant in Los Angeles, we took part in the biggest protest to date, joining three other animal protection organizations and 250 compassionate animal advocates and volunteers.
Recently, our coalition also joined resources to commission a 10-second digital ad in Times Square that will run from July 16th until October 31st, 2018. The ad, depicting cruelty on farms that kill chickens for meat for McDonald’s menu items, will air at least 60 times a day and will reach the estimated 1 million people who pass through Times Square every day.
