Today is the Best Day to go Plant-Based

What a time to be alive! Here are the top 5 reasons why now is the best time to go vegan.

There are so many reasons that make NOW the best time to ditch animal-derived foods. Here are just a few:

YOU’LL BE LEFT IN THE DUST IF YOU DON’T MAKE A CHANGE. As more and more people learn about the cruelty involved in the meat, egg, fishing, and dairy industries, the worldwide population that identifies as “vegan” is rapidly increasing. For example, in just three years (from 2014 to 2017) the number of people who refuse to eat animal-derived foods in the United States rose by 600 percent! Surely, future generations will look back on the way we treat animals as shameful and barbaric. If you want to be on the right side of history, it’s best to switch to a plant-based diet sooner rather than later.

PLANT-BASED FOOD IS MORE DELICIOUS THAN EVER. No more simple beans, rice, and veggies (although those are delicious options, too!). If you’re craving the taste of a burger, or feel like you could never “give up” cheese, think again. There are so many alternatives in grocery stores and restaurants that mimic the flavors of meat, cheese, and even eggs nowadays. Beyond Meat’s burgers and sausages are flying off shelves, long-time vegetarian brand Morningstar Farms recently switched over to become all-vegan, and more and more affordable plant-based products, like Kroger’s Simple Truth brand, are coming out with new substitutes all the time.

VEGANS CAN NOW EAT ANYWHERE, AND ON THE GO. Just within the past couple of years, we’ve seen countless meat and cheese substitutes popping up in many popular restaurant chains, too. For example, those who like the taste of meat can now drive through Carl’s Jr., Burger King, or Duncan Donuts to grab a quick plant-based bite. Sit-down restaurants like Red Robin, TGI Friday’s, and Yard House have meat substitutes also.

THE INTERNET IS YOUR FRIEND. Google Trends search data reports a huge increase in “veganism” and “vegan” searches from 2004 to 2018. The internet is an amazing tool when it comes to tips and plant-based hacks. There are wonderful blogs with vegan food guides and options you may not have thought of before. You can get support on message boards or online groups to get advice from seasoned vegans or find someone to support you in your switch to a plant-based diet. Animal Equality and other organizations post information, photographs, and investigation videos to show what’s really happening inside farms and slaughterhouses. Perfect for inspiration to help you make the switch.

THE ANIMALS NEED YOU. Now just as much as ever, animals languishing on industrial farms need help. Animal Equality and various other animal protection groups have gone undercover to document what happens in animal agriculture industries, and time and time again we witness cruelty that no reasonable human would find acceptable. Even on “award-winning” or “high-welfare” farms, neglect is commonplace. Even though farmed animals have the same capacity to suffer as the dogs and cats we share our homes with, most of them are forced to live in severe confinement and are denied everything they need to be happy. It’s standard practice to separate mothers and babies, and keep animals in semi-darkness. Many are forced to live in cages so small that they can’t even turn around. At the end of their miserable lives, they’re killed in terrifying and horrific ways.

When you go vegan, it means you’re no longer supporting extreme cruelty, and that’s something everyone should be able to get behind. Most people who eat a plant-based diet say that their only regret is that they didn’t do it sooner!
