Groundbreaking Footage Shows Live Chicks Thrown Away
Animal Equality's international investigation inside chicken hatcheries was filmed over the course of two years and showed that male chicks in the egg industry were cruelly discarded and crushed after birth. After the footage was released to the public, media outlets such as The India Times, The Sun, Metro and Daily Mail, covered the story and the video went viral on social media.
13 Bullfighting Events in Spain
We released a photo gallery containing never-before-seen images of bulls and calves (“encierros” and “novilladas”) at cruel bullfighting festivals, which were partially funded by European Union taxpayers. The EU annually provideed a subsidy of over £110 million via the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) to farmers who bred bulls for bullfights and other blood fiestas. British taxpayers helped fund bullfighting in Spain with over £13.5 million a year.
Vivisection of Pigs and Mice
Coinciding with World Day for Animals in Laboratories, Animal Equality released new footage of cruel experiments on mice and rats at the Medical School of the Complutense University of Madrid,and on pigs at the Gregorio Marañón Hospital in Spain.
Raccoon Dog and Fox Fur Farms
Animal Equality investigators carried out an undercover investigation into several farms and markets near Beijing, China. Each housed more than 300 'raccoon dogs'. Video shows grinning worker ripping fur from around live animal's head.
Gadhimai Ritual Sacrifice
Animal Equality used a drone to capture footage of the Gadhimai Animal Sacrifice in India, which takes place during the Gadhimai festival every five years. We witnessed fields strewn with thousands of dead animals. The footage, which also showed how animals were killed in full view of each other and human children, helped reduce the number of animals killed by 69 percent at the following festival.
Reindel Pig Farm
An Animal Equality Germany investigation exposed a variety of violations on Reindel pig farm. In addition to gross hygiene deficiencies and behavioral disorders, footage depicted dead and severely suffering pigs, as well as many screaming with pain and bloody injuries. Based on these finding, Animal Equality sought criminal charges against farm owner Martin Reindel.
Halal Lamb Slaughterhouse
Animal Equality investigated one of about 200 Italian facilities where ritual slaughtering is permitted (Halal and Kosher) in Italy. The findings showed that animals endure painful and terrifying deaths during Halal slaughter phase during the “Feast of Sacrifice” (“Aid al Ahda”), prompting Animal Equality to push for a ban of ritual slaughter in Italy.
Edeka Pig Supplier
Edeka, a popular grocery store in Germany, promoted “transparency” to entice customers to buy its products. However, when Animal Equality investigated some of Edeka’s meat suppliers, they found horrific conditions. The investigation garnered widespread media coverage throughout Germany.
70 Rabbit Farms and 4 Slaughterhouses
For over two years, Animal Equality investigators worked inside the rabbit meat industry in Spain, getting a first-hand look at the abuse and cruelty that rabbits often endure in the meat industry. Animal Equality took legal action against the farms and slaughterhouses investigated.
No Mercy for Lambs
New video obtained in Italian slaughterhouses and farms revealed that lambs and baby goats were kept in dark, cramped sheds, and sometimes still conscious and struggling while workers slit their throats.
