animal cruelty persists under Wiebe Draijer
Caged Hens in Ahold Delhaize’s Supply Chain
Wiebe Draijer is the chair of the supervisory board of Ahold Delhaize, one of the world’s largest grocery companies. Although Draijer has claimed to be a champion of sustainability, millions of hens in Ahold’s supply chain remain locked in cages, enduring lives of extreme confinement where they cannot move freely, stretch their wings, or behave naturally.
Ahold Delhaize promised to end the use of cages in its U.S. supply chain by 2025, a promise that has been delayed 7 more years. As chair, Wiebe Draijer has the authority and influence to stop this cruelty. His inaction allows millions of hens to remain trapped and helpless.

PUBLIC TRUST MEETS PRIVATE CRUELTY
Wiebe Draijer also serves on the Palace Committee of the Royal Palace Foundation in Amsterdam—an institution built on public trust, moral authority, and stewardship of shared heritage. The values symbolized by the Palace stand in stark contrast to the reality unfolding under Draijer’s leadership at Ahold Delhaize.
By staying on Ahold Delhaize’s board without acting, Wiebe Draijer ties the credibility of the Palace to a system of animal abuse. Royal institutions cannot remain silent while those entrusted with their reputation allow cruelty to continue in plain sight.
