Animal Equality exposes cruelty in Argentina slaughterhouses
Animal Equality’s first Argentina investigation uncovers illegal cruelty at two Buenos Aires slaughterhouses.
Investigators documented cows beaten with sledgehammers and pigs shocked with electric prods in sensitive areas.
With no clear legal ban on these practices, such cruelty often goes unpunished. The animals suffer in silence…
That is why Animal Equality is there to expose and speak out against this cruelty.
Narrated by Argentine comedian, actor, and activist Kiki Petrone, this investigation shines a light on suffering the industry wants to hide.

Industrial livestock farming is growing in Argentina.
Cruelty is becoming systematic.
My name is Kiki Petrone,
and today I want to tell you
about something important
that Animal Equality has revealed in Buenos Aires.
For the first time,
the organization's team visited two slaughterhouses
and meatpacking plants authorized in the capital:
Santa Giulia and Frigorífico Vidal S.A.
They documented the conditions in which animals
are killed for human consumption.
They recorded serious
violations of Law 18.819,
the SENASA Animal Welfare Manual,
and practices that,
although not classified as such,
involve a level of suffering that
should not be tolerated.
One of the most alarming findings was the use of
a sledgehammer to try to stun the cows.
This method is prohibited and ineffective.
It requires multiple blows, and in several cases,
the animals collapse slowly, still conscious.
Some cows continue to move while hanging
and are struck again to complete the process.
Cruelty is also present in the slaughter of pigs.
If the animals resist before reaching the stunning box,
an electric prod is used to deliver shocks.
This is a permitted method with restricted use.
Here it is used routinely, arbitrarily, and cruelly,
as it is applied to the genital area.
Throughout their investigation, they documented cruel practices
that cause them stress, such as shouting, hitting, or pulling.
These actions are not explicitly regulated,
but they have a clear impact on the animals' welfare.
The few regulations governing
the slaughter process are not enforced,
while legal loopholes and a lack of inspections
allow animal cruelty to
be the norm in slaughterhouses.
This reflects the urgency not only to monitor compliance
with laws and expand their protection,
but also to recognize that animals feel and deserve to live
without the suffering that the industrial livestock model has systematized to maximize its economic profit.
Today, you have the opportunity to extend compassion.
