Shaping a kinder world – Your impact on animals in 2023

Because of you, our fight to end animal cruelty is stronger
than ever. This past year, 34 million
cows, pigs, chickens, horses, and other animals
were impacted by your compassion and your determination.
You're leading the fight against the cruel factory farming
industry through plant-based choices, legal
advocacy and campaigns, and undercover
investigations. In 2023, Animal Equality
published seven undercover investigations,
exposing the conditions animals face on farms
and in slaughterhouses. In the US, we teamed up
with activist and actress Richa
Moorjani to reveal the investigation
inside dairy cruelty, highlighting the
impact of plant-based choices. We launched a
strong campaign against Denny's for
lying to the animals and for lying to you.
Over 53,000 messages were sent to Denny's,
urging them to follow through on its promise to end the use of
crates for mother pigs. We held nationwide protests,
took out a billboard in Times Square, and even visited
Denny's headquarters in Spartanburg, South
Carolina. Our actions were covered by Fox
News. We launched an international campaign against
Aldi, urging the company to align with its
practices in Germany by ending the use of cages in the
United States. The campaign began with an iconic
protest in the Brandenburg Gate in Germany.
You fought against the cruel force-feeding of ducks,
geese, with a global campaign. In the US, we
progressed foie gras sales bans in Portland, Vancouver,
Ann Arbor, and Rhode Island. In Germany, we personally
handed 60,000 of your petition
signatures, urging the European government to end
force-feeding in the foie gras industry.
And our team in the UK, and our team of animal advocates
like yourself, protested in front of the Big Ben, holding
instruments used for force-feeding torture.
The action inspired members of Parliament to speak up
against foie gras. The debate was featured
on the front page of "The Times." We worked with decision-makers
around the world to strengthen animal protection laws
and pursued legal action against those who
violate their rights. In the US, we joined the fight
to uphold Prop 12 despite the
industry's opposition,
securing the improvements for living conditions of
animals. We saw the passing of a state law in New Jersey
that ended the extreme confinement for mother pigs and calves.
The victory marked the end of the 13 years of
relentless advocacy of Animal Equality,
other organizations, and advocates like you.
You've also joined in the fight against the Eats Act,
which threatens to erase decades of animal
protection laws in the US. We pursued legal
action against several entities involved in farmed animal
abuse. These private criminal complaints
serve a dual purpose,
bringing justice to animals and raising public
awareness about the cruelty to farmed animals.
We influenced legislation in Mexico, introducing animal
protection laws in six states
and presenting a groundbreaking bill to include
animals in Mexico's constitution.
We fought against the harmful Self Control Bill in Brazil,
advocated for legislation to end the use of cages in Europe,
and joined the call for an EU Commissioner for Animal
Welfare, prioritizing animals in European
policymaking. This fight for animals is our why,
but our how is Love Veg.
With you, we've empowered people around the world to
reduce or eliminate their consumption of animal
products. We promoted plant-based proteins
as the ultimate way to protect animals from cruelty
and launched recipe books around the world to inspire
thousands to plant-based eating.
Hundreds of thousands of people have begun their plant-based
journeys in 2023, thanks to Love Veg.
And all of this is only possible because of
your support, your resilience against the
industry that hurts and exploits animals.
