This is Lewis. He is a so-called broiler chicken.
This beautiful young rooster was destined to become chicken meat,
but luckily his fate took an unexpected turn.
Lewis was raised on a chicken farm alongside thousands of other baby
chicks. In modern factory farming.
Chickens like Lewis are specifically bred to gain as much weight as possible.
This extreme rapid growth results in cardiovascular problems,
skin sores, and painful leg injuries.
Due to the horrible living conditions, many of the birds die inside these farms.
Others are killed by farm workers.
Undercover footage taken by animal equality investigators tells the story
of weak, sick, or injured chicks who are systematically being crushed,
beaten to death, or discarded alive in German chicken farms,
this would have been the fate of Lewis and his three brothers.
Their legs couldn't cope with the weight of their own bodies anymore.
In farms like these, that is a death sentence.
Animal equality Investigators decided to rescue the injured chicks and give them
the chance of a new life.
The chicks were exhausted and dehydrated.
They were brought to a sanctuary where they were taken care of and nursed for
several weeks. Thanks to the love and care they received,
Lewis and his brothers are fully recovered.
They can now spend the rest of their lives in freedom.
Louis has become a proud young rooster Today,
nothing remains of the weak baby chick destined to be thrown out like trash.
Louis's new life is just getting started.
