Thousands of chickens in overcrowded and windowless sheds suffer from constant pain and disease. They are subjected to a life of immense suffering before being sent to slaughter. In the United States, the largest producer in the world, nearly 8 billion chickens endure similar fates on factory farms every year. Animal Equality is urging consumers to support legislative reforms to protect these animals from such cruelty.
You can take action to protect chickens today and every day. By deciding on plant-based alternatives instead of meat, dairy, eggs, or other animal products, we can help reduce the demand for this cruel practice and support a more compassionate and sustainable food system.

Can you imagine dying just 42 days
after being born?
Your life cut short
just so an industry can make money.
New evidence released by Animal Equality in Mexico
shows the cruel reality
for chickens on factory farms;
A similar fate endured by nearly 8 billion
chickens in the United States.
Within a few short weeks of hatching,
nearly 2 billion chickens in Mexico
every year will be killed,
just so their meat can be sold on
grocery store shelves.
These animals are forced to live in discomfort
and suffering inside
overcrowded and windowless sheds.
Those who survive are sent to slaughter
at only 42 days of age.
They are not yet adults.
Chickens are bred to grow so large at such a quick
rate that it causes disease and constant pain.
They suffer heart attacks and organ failure.
They collapse and their bones break easily.
Some can't even walk to their food or water.
But all of this is just the beginning.
Once they reach an abnormally heavy weight,
they are sent to the slaughterhouse.
To transport them,
workers roughly take chickens by their legs
and put them into transportation cages.
Many suffer injuries to their legs and wings.
They are then hung upside down by their legs
on a line bound for an electrocution bath.
The electrified water is meant to stun them
prior to slaughter,
but this method often fails
if the current is not strong enough.
Many remain conscious while paralyzed.
Without proper stunning,
their throats are cut while conscious
and they bleed to death.
Even through this process,
some chickens are still conscious when
they arrive at the hot water tank
where they are scalded alive
to remove their feathers.
This is how these sensitive
and intelligent animals are killed.
In Mexico, where undercover investigators
captured this footage,
chickens make up 98% of land
animals slaughtered for food.
The United States is the largest producer of meat
from chickens in the world.
Chickens are the most killed animals after fish
making them also one of the most abused animals
around the globe.
These animals are capable of feeling pain,
suffering, empathy and happiness.
Each of them has a unique personality
and form bonds with one another.
They don't deserve this.
We shouldn't inflict this suffering on them.
Simply changing our eating habits
by reducing or eliminating meat can help
chickens, pigs, cows and other animals,
who deserve to be respected and protected.
